"Come into the circle of love and justice. Come into the community of mercy, holiness, and health. Come into this sanctuary of sharing. Come in and feel secure and comfortable, Come in, feeling that you will be able to explore and learn and discover. Check-in: What is your comfort level now, related to safety, security, inclusivity? Topic/Activity: Share an experience where diverse gifts were honored. What was the impact on you? Have you been uncomfortable because you were different? When have you wished that you had said or done something when another person was being put down? How does this affect your sense of yourself? What do you need to move toward empowerment of yourself and others? Closing words: I can see their contributions – even if their culture is not mine. I can even add to my understanding of the culture and contributions! But you say that I should transform or change my ideas? That I might even come to see things another way? No way! And you insist that acknowledging contributions, adding understanding, and transforming the way that I see things leads me to social action…. To actually doing something when I see an injustice. So that’s where diversity education is heading! Count me in? Or count me out? Likes and Wishes: How did the session go for you? Zidowecki, 7/2004 | |||||||||||
